The de facto standard is a "question and answer" format delineated by bold "Q's" and "A's". This method places text on an 8 1/2" x 11" standard sheet with a wide left margin which allows for binding. Transcriptions can also be printed with variable width margins.

A concordance report lists the interview number and page number, and recaps the number of unique words, total occurrences of unique words, "noise" words (and, the, but, etc.) and total number of words in the interview. If desired, the concordance report can also identify and list the "noise" words along with their occurrences.

The index lists, in alphabetical order and in bold print, all unique words. Immediately following, and in parenthesis, is the number of times a particular word appears in the entire transcript. Below the word is the page number and, separated by a colon, the line number where that word appears. Same word occurrences on different lines of a page are delineated by commas. Occurrences of a word on multiple pages are also delineated by commas. If preferred, the index can also include "noise" words.
