The outsourcing of recorded media to SMI's transcription service bureau no longer
has to be held back until a sufficient amount of material is accumulated for a
series of transcriptions. For subsequent output to the internet, intranet or CD/DVD,
recordings and data sheets can be sent out on a tape-by-tape basis for transcription
and conversion to PDF format. The status of transcripts can be tracked
at any given time through a customer specific, password protected, on-line
listing of work in progress. When part of a series, each transcript's PDF conversion -- consisting of the transcript, concordance report and index -- becomes part of an index within an index. The ability of SMI's proprietary search engine to locate key words in the PDF transcript provides a valuable source for cross-referencing. Keywords can be located electronically across any number of interviews, or volumes of interviews, residing on the same URL or CD/DVD. On-line, digitized PDF transcripts can be the latest addendum to the portfolio of printed transcriptions of any progressive library system. SMI can provide a completely scaleable internet/intranet solution for the distribution and access of digitized transcripts. Additionally, the on-line distribution of subscriber or pay-per-view digital transcripts opens a valuable revenue stream which in some cases can completely offset the transcript conversion and hosting costs. Click on the "Digitized Demo" button on the top-left of the page for a demonstration of access to multiple PDF transcripts. PDF files can be read with Adobe Reader freeware available for download by clicking on the Adobe logo on the bottom-left of the web page. |
